Revolutionizing global health through innovative liver research
The liver is a central metabolic organ that coordinates the healthy functioning of the heart, brain and kidneys. Backed by a transformative $104 million gift, the largest publicly shared donation for liver research in U.S. history, we are leading innovative investigations that will reinvent the way we care for patients with liver disease and educate future physician-scientists.
People with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) generally do not know they are affected until the disease has progressed to a dangerously late stage because diagnosing early-stage NASH is difficult, expensive and often painful for the patient.
As part of the non-invasive biomarkers of metabolic liver disease (NIMBLE) project, our researchers are partnering with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health and other academic, private-sector and public-sector organizations to identify biological substances that are more easily collected and measured so they can be used to diagnose NASH earlier.
